In this report the Working Group outlines recommendations and proposals for reform to the system for maintaining and enhancing SSSIs, focusing particularly on how to strengthen existing legislation to make the law more transparent and effective. Issues considered include: transparency in notification and denotification of sites; protection of SSSIs from damage and the need for monitoring; conservation and positive mamagement; appeals and arbitration.
