The London Book Trades (LBT) database is a Microsoft Access file developed by Michael L. Turner (MLT) which currently contains entries for just over 30,000 individuals active in the London book trades from the introduction of printing to around 1830. Emphasis is placed on recording specific events in each individual's life, and on recording the inter-relationships, both familial and professional, within the trade. The database contains a large number of tables and forms specifically developed for inputting the information rather than for public access. When consulting the database it would be advisable to start with the form "Introduction".

The database provides a snapshot of work in progress at a given time. Updated versions will be stored regularly.

Comment and queries may be sent to - londonbooktrades@btinternet.com

Please note that, due to the size, opening/downloading the LBT Access database(s) in this collection, does take some time. To assist, an index of the LBT database (text file) is available for immediate use.

It is the declared intention of the Bibliographical Society and the Oxford Bibliographical Society to publish jointly a web-based version of the database, which is currently being developed.
