Norman Roper attended Bermondsey Central Technical School from 1935-9. His history work includes illustrations, both his own drawn and cyclostyled on such topics as 'Changes in Town and Country', 'Canals and Roads', Steamships and Railways', the 'Advance of Science' and 'Medicine'in the early years. Each section is introduced with a brightly-illustrated front-page. His notes were regularly marked by his teacher. After the 'themes' in the first year, the class moved on to Imperial and European history, even including the smaller European nations and up to the League of Nations. There are two sections on 'The Great World War (1914-19180'.
