INFORMATION REQUESTED REGARDING GRAVE OF BRITISH NAVAL OFFICERS AND MEN ON SANDY HOOK. N.J._ • Colonel L.N. Magrudger, 7th Coast Artillery, commanding Fort Hancock, New Jersey, in a letter dated July 23rd, 1936, states that there is a grave on Fort Hancock Military Reservation which is stated "by a local historian to contain the remains of Lieutenant the Hon. Hamilton Haliburton, R.N., Lieutenant James Champion, R.N., and of twelve 1 young gentlemen', who having "been landed from H.M.S. ASSISTANCE in December 1783 to search for deserters, perished in a snow-storm. Colonel Magruder states, that, if sufficient data can "be obtained, it is proposed to restore the monument reported to have "been erected over the grave by Catherine, Countess Dowager of Morton, and to this end would be grateful for the following information, if readily available:- 1. Name of vessel and actual date of death of the fourteen members of the Royal Navy. 2. Names of those involved. 3. Names of present descendants, if any. 4.
