Excellency:
I hare the honor to acknowledge the receipt of
your Excellency's note of September 8, 1939, stating
that it was intended that the request contained in your
note No. 361 of September 1 that this Government under-
take the protection of British Interests in Germany
should be Interpreted to cover inter alia the protection
of those persons who might be taken prisoners of war and
for whose protection the British Ambassador in Germany
and consular officers under his superintendence would
normally be responsible*
