A' 0 DEPARTMENT-O WASHINGTON 24 Excellency: I have the honor to refer to Your Excellen March 28, 1940 notes of December 14j 1939 and March 18, 19^0 regarding the British Government's desire to establish a branch of the Gilbert and Ellice Island Colony Postal Service on Canton Island and inquiring whether the United States Government has any objection to this proposal. I am pleased to inform you that the United States Government does not wish to offer any objection to such a step by the British Government.
