1 No. 569. BRITI8H MttflJMf* WASHINGTON, D.C. 25th JUne 1940, My Lord, I have the honour, with reference /%f*1• t0 m^ despatch No. 1439 of December 22nd last _}£ and to the letter of June 6th to the American Department from the Chancery of this Smbassy regarding the delivery of military aircraft pur- chased by belligerent governments in this country, to transtait to you herewith the text of an article extracted from the New York "Times" of June 18th, stating that United States authorities have now agreed that such aircraft may be delivered by air across the American frontiers. This ruling will permit aircraft ordered by the Allied Governments to be flown direct from this country to Canada instead of, as hitherto, having to be landed on the American side of the border, towed across the frontier line into Canada, and then reflown to a Canadian air port. This concession by the American authorities will be of considerable advan- tage to us. I have the honour to be, with the highest respect, My Lord, Your Lordship's most obedient, 4£ humble servant, The Right Honourable The Viscount Halifax, K.Q., (Sgd.) LOTHIAN. GCP:FRHM:KIP etc., etc,, etc*
