your telegram NoTStL   defence Conference.,
Government of New Zealand cannot yet give me definite date
for opening of the Conference out I am arranging to leave
Suva 14th March on the assumption that it will begin this
month.     If it transpires by then that the Conference
will not be able to open till April I propose, unless you
telegraph ?ne to the contrary, to continue in the same ship
to Sydney in the first instance for short visit for the
purpose of establishing contact with Colonial Sugar Refining
Company and other business organisations who have asked for
an early opportunity of meeting me*     It is particularly
desirable for- ne to meet heads of colonial Sugar defining
; Company in view of their present opposition to our labour
legislation proposals.
