My telegram of 14th April ifo. 84 Secret Conference
today gave general consideration in Coimittee to items {B) (3) (c)
und (D) on the Agenda.     Under (JS) (3) itew Zealand delegation
explained impracticability of New Zealand providing more than one
armed merchant cruiser for Tasmun trade.     Possibilities of
sending Hew Zealand forces to Singapore and Trincomalee on lines
suggested in CO.S.332 v/ere tentatively mentioned and in the
course of discussion an enquiry from ifev/ Zealand delegation was
answered on linos of your secret telegram of the; 6th April Ho. 34.
Defence of banning Island was also broadly discussed prior to
detailed discu.;3ion "by a sub committee.     Under item (c) question
of cooperation in an eventual air reconnaissance screen between
Port Moresby and Suva v;as approached.     Under item (D) New
Zealand delegation suggested inter alia the desirability of a
New Zealand liaison officer at the »Var Office.
2.     It Le proposed that Coram!tteeB should be set up next
week to deal with questions (1) strategical rrue:*tions (2) supply
(3) civil aviation.
