(A 7853/21/45) FOREIGN OFFICE, S.W.I* 18th November. 1939, My Lord Marquess, ^^^^0^ I transmit herewith to Your Lordship copies of self explanatory correspondence between this department and the Colonial Office, regarding the suggestion made by the High Commissioner for the Western pacific that a branch of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands Colony Postal service should be established on Canton Island. 2. I shall be glad if you will now place the relevant facts before the State Department and will enquire whether the united States Government have any objection to this proposal. Unless you see objection you should make a suitable reference?in the course of your representations, to the arrangements apparently contemplated by Pan-American Airways which are mentioned in paragraph 3 of the Colonial Office letter of the 9th November.
