DEPARTMENT OP STATE APRIL 2, 1940. FOR THE PRESS No.135 Text of letter from the Honorable the Secretary of State, Cordell Hull, to the Honorable Hamilton Fish, House of Representatives, April 2, 1940: "April 2, 1940. "Hon. Hamilton Fish, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C. "Ky dear Congressman: "I have received your letter of April 2 in which you request that Ambassador Villlr.m C. Bullitt be asked to remain in this country for another two weeks in order to be able to t**pt.lfy before a com- mittee of either branch of Congress relative to data contained in the German White Paper recently issued. "I may say ir the first place that Ambassador Bullitt has succinctly and categorically denied any imputations relating to himself as contained in that published matter. The Executive Department of the Government hae accepted that denial without question. Furthermore, Ambassador Bullitt has been delayed by the illness of his daughter in returning to his post where he is needed. "In the foregoing circumstances, it is not felt that the public interest would be served by delaying more or less indefinitely the departure of Ambassador Bullitt as planned. Sincerely yours, (Signed) CORDELL HULL"
