I have received your note of December 21, 1940
inquiring whether the appointment of the Right Hon-
orable the Viscount Halifax, K.G. as Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain
to the United States in succession to the late Marquess
of Lothian would be agreeable to this Government.
The appointment of Lord Halifax in the above
mentioned capacity is satisfactory to this Govern-
ment, and the American Embassy at London has already
been so informed by telegraph.
