copies of a Despatch which I have addressed to the
Secretary of State for the Colonies on the subject
of the United States bases in Trinidad, with
enclosures.   The Despatch contains an account which
I have written from my notes and from memory of the
interview which took place in the Embassy on the 6th
December, and of which I understand that no record
has hitherto been made.   You will see from Paragraph 8
of the Despatch that no claim is made that this report
is exhaustive, but I hope that those present at the
meeting will agree that it is substantially accurate
and covers all the important points raised at the
meeting.
2.   I should be grateful if I might be furnished
in due course with a copy of the recommendations made
by the Greenslade Mission to the President, to which
reference is made in Paragraph 8 of the Despatch, and
also with a copy of Paragraph 17 of rny Despatch of the
3rd December as edited and forwarded to the State
0    Department in accordance with your telegram No.52 of
the 13th December.   I suggest that it might be con-
venient if copies of these documents were also sent
to London for the information of the Secretary of State
for the Colonies and also to the Commander-in-Chief,
America & West Indies Station.

4. I take this opportunity of returning a map
which I regret that I inadvertently took away with me
after the meeting and which was enclosed with one of the
copies of my Despatch of the 3rd December to the late
Lord Lothian.
5. I have sent a copy of this Despatch to the
Secretary of State for the Colonies and to the
Commander-in-Chief, America & West Indies Station.
