The German part of the title of the article translates as ‘history, collections and services’. The introduction presents the fact that IALS is celebrating its 60th birthday this year and comments on the achievements of the lawyers, who worked towards setting it up. It also refers to the key role of the IALS library as a national research library which supports the British Library. Later sections give an overview of the development of the catalogues and collections, an introduction to the needs of the reader/client groups and, recent developments in electronic resources and training. The article also describes IALS projects such as BAILII and INTUTE and explains the background and current role and aims of the document supply service with its related copyright issues.
