Citation: History teachers, Trainee and Sheldon, Nicola (2010) Interview with trainee history teachers at the Institute of Education, London, 2 July 2010. [Audio] (Unpublished)

Eight trainee history teachers studying for their PGCE at the Institute of Education, London, accepted the invitation to be interviewed for the History in Education Project. The interview was conducted towards the end of their year of training. They first discuss their own history education - some in state schools and others in the independent sector, reflecting on the quality of teaching and the topics they were taught. They also discuss some of the perceived short-comings of contemporary history education, such as the teaching of chronology and reflect on the way history is taught in other countries in contrast to England. The trainee teachers move on to discuss their motives for choosing to train as a history teacher and reflect on their experiences of the schools in which they have been doing their teaching practices.
