Abstract
Chris McGovern came to public notice in 1988 following a dispute at his school in East Sussex over the introduction of the GCSE history examination. He lost his job and subsequently campaigned for a traditional factual approach to history teaching. He was a member of the History Committee set up under the Dearing Review of the National Curriculum in 1993-4 and submitted a Minority Report. He is the headteacher of a junior preparatory school in London. Interviewed by Dr Nicola Sheldon
