These files contain indexes to the British book trade journal The Bookseller for selected years between 1860 and 1891. A separate file contains an introduction to the indexes and an explanation of the headings used. The indexes were originally compiled to identify material for a thesis for an Open University research degree. The first two indexes, for 1860 and 1861, are comprehensive and include entries to the full range of subjects, places and people covered by the journal. The indexes for subsequent years (1866, 1871, 1881 and 1891) contain mainly entries relevant to the research on literary property, bookselling and pricing but also include entries for some other related social and cultural aspects of the book trade.
