Abstract
Annie Whitehead attended a large comprehensive school in Hampshire and a secondary modern school in Norfolk during the 1970s. She studied O level history and recalls the turmoil she experienced in her education due to the merging of schools in this period. Despite this, she developed a love of history, in particular through historical literature and cherised history books, such as the Longman's series 'Modern Times'. Annie's vivid memories of learning history attach both to her inspirational Hampshire teacher and the power of illustrations and photographs from the text books. She discusses the work she did at A level on the Tudors and Stuarts and her independent research on the Celts. She went on to study early medieval history at North London Polytechnic. Interviewed by Dr Nicola Sheldon.
